The federally-funded National Resource Centers (NRC) grant program aims to advance the teaching of international languages and cultures in American universities. Commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education, KEN Consulting, Inc. conducted this study to examine how NRCs implemented the requirement to reflect diverse perspectives and generate debate on world regions and international affairs during the FY 2018-2021 grant cycle. We found that NRCs employed a variety of innovative methods to meet this requirement, such as lecture series, cultural events, and teacher training programs. Each NRC uniquely tailored its approach based on its specific institutional context, promoting a wide range of viewpoints and fostering inclusive academic discourse. This comprehensive evaluation highlights best practices and offers recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and clarity of the diverse perspectives requirement, ensuring continued support for rigorous scholarly standards.
